Coco View Staff
Roatan’s Friendliest & Happiest Workers
CoCo View Resort is blessed with a great location – our lodging in Roatan is all over the water or ocean-front, the island is beautiful, and we have easy access to fantastic dive sites and terrific facilities. For some resorts that would be enough, but not for us!
We are also blessed with an incredible staff of professional, hardworking and super friendly individuals. These individuals are the heart and soul of the resort; some you will see everyday, and others work behind the scenes, making sure everything runs smoothly.
CoCo View Resort’s Managers, Mitch and Deb Karlson, have been vacationing at the resort since 1992. They have visited each of the Bay Islands, and enjoyed lodging at several other resorts, but always returned to the friendly faces of CoCo View and Roatan.
When they decided to leave the big city of Houston, their destination of choice was Roatan. Deb has many years of hotel management experience and is an avid SCUBA diver and underwater photographer. Mitch also has many years of management experience, has extensive mechanical knowledge, and is a PADI Dive Master.
The Karlsons spent their last 5 years in Texas living on a sailboat, so it’s obvious that the ocean is an important part of their lives. Now, the lodging at CoCo View Resort in Roatan is a perfect place for them to call home. They look forward to welcoming you to this little piece of paradise.
In addition to Mitch and Deb, CoCo View also has Doc Radawski. Doc moved to Roatan more than 40 years ago and has become an Island Legend, as well an integral part of CoCo View. Read more about Doc and find his daily weather reports in the Weather section of this site.
Doc Radawski first came to Roatan in 1970, purportedly for 3 months. There he joined Oceanograficos de Honduras, (ODH), as scientist-diver. Later becoming the expedition’s Technical Director. ODH had a contract with the Honduran Institute of Anthropology and History to locate and archaeologically excavate shipwrecks in the Bay Islands and on the north coast of Honduras.
The 3 months, has stretched into 42 years, allowing him to pursue and live most of his dreams.
The marine archaeological work was centered in Port Royal Harbor on Roatan. Port Royal was the site of the two major military encounters between the English and the Spanish and is rich in colonial period history. When the archaeological work ended in 1976, Doc started the first independent dive shop on Roatan. Originally established as a guided diving operation, it ultimately became a dive equipment and compressor repair facility, serving the commercial lobster diving fleet.
In 1982, through Calvin and Stella Bodden, island friends from the community of Oak Ridge, he met Bill and Evelyn Evans. With them, he helped setup, and then managed the dive operation at CoCoView Resort. CoCoView and its dive operation have become a standard in the dive resort industry. He left CoCoView in mid-1991 to pursue work in the fields of coral reef ecology and the sustainable management of naturally renewable resources.
Doc has also taught numerous courses on reef ecology and island biogeography. He has been employed as a consultant in those fields.
A graduate of Michigan Technological University with a BSChE, he has authored six (6) scientific papers and holds one (1) patent.
He now can be found at CoCoView Resort, where he oversees the mechanical aspects of the dive operation, maintains the computer and internet systems at the resort and entertains guests with tall tales of treasure, stormy weather, and factors relating to the role of man’s fine hand in paradise lost.
We are proud to have the best and happiest service staff on Roatan. Their smiles are the souvenirs everyone takes home!
A lovely group of local ladies runs our front office. Along with reconfirming your airline reservations, these women can also schedule an array of off-property activities for you. Visit them to arrange everything from Jeep rentals to shark dives.
Our friendly housekeeping and clubhouse staff enjoy taking care of you and will keep you comfortable during your stay. They are the reason so many of our guests consider the resort their “home away from home.”
